Essential Information

Important Stuff! Taklow Posek!

Golowan becomes very busy, and we ask that you keep your children close. We recommend that children under the age of 16 be accompanied by an adult. Make sure they have your mobile phone number on them, even write it on their arm! If you lose your child, please contact a Golowan steward, tell your child to do the same. Look out for their identification tag and Golowan t-shirt or hi-viz vest/jacket.

If you come by car, to avoid congestion and long queues, we recommend you parkin the spacious St Erth train station car park and take the train for the one stop to Penzance, a short walk to the festival.

By Train: Great Western Railway are now Golowan’s Official Travel Partner. You can book your train from their website here. Penzance train station is a short 5-minute walk to the festival.

By Bus: Buses operate into and out of the bus station (next to the train station and a 5-minute walk to the Festival). Check with the service provider for up-to-date information.

By Car: Follow the A30 to Penzance and follow signs for car parking. Car Parks: Free parking is available at Penwith College (8am to 9pm), on a first come, first served basis. The other paid-for car park is at the Wharf side Car Park next to the bus and train station. The Greenmarket and St Anthony’s car parks will not be available.

Mazey Day in Festival Square (Greenmarket car park), outside St John’s Hall, in Jennings Street and in Morrab Gardens.

Quay Fair Day on the South Quay, near PZ Gallery, in Morrab Gardens and near Wherrytown Skate Park.

Golowan is a street-based festival. As such it comes with the usual challenges of navigating a town, so be prepared.

There is a DISABLED access VIEWING AREA for the Parades on Mazey Day available on Market Jew Street, near the entrance to the Wharf side shopping centre. Accessed from the Harbour Long Stay Car Park using the lift to the first floor at the top of the escalator and exiting at the Market Jew Street entrance.

Changing Places Facilities (logo) can be found at Poppies, Belgravia Street, off Bread Street.

Quiet Space – If you need a break from the hubbub on Mazey Day (29th June), Penzance Salvation Army are offering a quiet space to chill out and rest at their Church & Community Centre on Queen Street. Bring your own food; drinks and snacks available.

On Mazey Eve in the harbour area.

On Mazey Day in Market Jew Street near Domino’s Pizzas, at the top of Morrab Road and in Morrab Gardens.

On Quay Fair Day in the harbour area and by the Skate Park on the Prom.

Information is also available from the Penzance and District Tourism Association, at www.bookpenzance.com or from The Welcome Centre, Penzance (opposite the train station), 01736 335530 or email westcornwall@nationaltrust.org.uk.

The majority of events are free; the parades, street entertainment and exhibitions. Some music events are ticketed; see the programme for more info.

There are stewards available throughout the festival. Look for their hi-viz vests and/or Golowan Volunteer t-shirts and identification tag or go to the Golowan Pop Up Shop/Stall–Bottom of Causewayhead next to the HSBC bank. Check our website and Facebook for last minute information or changes.
